In Kit ‘A’ we would draw attention to item 11, this is a completely new pinion and housing assembly constructed from items 1 through 10. We normally supply this part of the kit ready assembled, as shown in item 11. In this instance an R type Continental unit is shown assembled merely as an example, but other models are similar.

This item 11 assembly has many advantages. We ask for the return of the customer’s old pinion and housing assembly in an UNCLEANED condition, together with item 15 from the old axle. Once received the old unit is placed in a jig that prevents the old worn pinion bearings from affecting any setting data. The new unit is then set to replicate the customer’s old assembly in his axle case, which may be on the other side of the World. This allows us to pre-set the pinion penetration position, which normally involves some considerable skill and special equipment. In addition we have already pre-loaded the bearings correctly, saving the customer the need to have pre-loading equipment on hand and also special removal tools for the serrated bearing retaining nut. Therefore this item 11 assembly saves the customer considerable effort and expense, besides the need to have specialist skills on hand. In fact, in setting terms, the customer will only need to adjust the Crown wheel back lash and the internal differential pinion and bevels, all under close instruction. Of course customers can request the kit of parts unassembled.
